MAP Exams Starting Jan. 27th

Dear Parents of 2nd – 10th grades,

Starting the week of January 27th your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Language Arts and Mathematics. Your child will take the tests on a computer. All students in the selected grades must participate as a way of fulfilling the requirements of the international accreditation body: SACS/CASI.

There is no way to study for standardized tests such as MAP. Over the next few weeks, your child will spend a total of about three hours completing these tests. Students in grades 2nd – 10th will be tested now January – February (second season) and in April-May (third season). MAP tests are state of the art standardized tests, currently used in the top schools in the U.S. and in international schools all over the world including the Santo Domingo community. These tests are the new standardized tests which replace the more traditional tests such as the IOWA tests.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing.  With MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. These results are very useful in order to tailor instruction to your child’s needs. For this reason, it is very important that students do their best. These tests do not need any special preparation. We request you make sure your child attends school during the days on which s/he will be evaluated, that s/he has a good rest the night before, and has a healthy breakfast the days of the tests.

We appreciate your support during this process. If you have questions, you are welcome to send an email to acoordinator@tas.edu.do.

Sincerely,

The Ashton School
